The Caritas organization initiated the dairy cow project (Pass on and pass back)in 1999 to improve the life standard of poor and vulnerable families in Njombe region. This program started with 30 farmers whereby each farmer received one heifer. Currently the project has reached 547 families. This project has helped farmers on the following:
1. The health of beneficiaries have improved thorough drinking milk.
2. Most beneficiaries have maximized their family income by selling extra milk .
3. Increased production of maize, common beans and avocado as a result of using cow manure on their farms.
