The Roman Catholic Diocese of Njombe, established in 1968, has consistently prioritized holistic evangelization—spreading the Gospel while actively promoting socio-economic and educational development for both the faithful and the broader community.

Over the years, the Diocese has implemented a diverse range of impactful projects—including pastoral initiatives, schools, health centers, and self-reliance programs—aimed at enhancing both spiritual growth and human development. These efforts reflect a deep commitment to uplifting lives in a sustainable and compassionate manner.

In support of this vision, Caritas functions as the Church’s development wing, focused on empowering vulnerable communities by promoting justice, peace, and dignity. Its work is grounded in values such as compassion, integrity, solidarity, and respect for all.

To further these goals, the Diocese established the Njombe Development Office (NDO) as a strategic entity to lead structured development initiatives. Registered as a Non-Governmental Organization under the Societies Ordinance of 1954 and granted Certificate of Compliance No. 1577 in accordance with the NGO Act of 2002, NDO has since 2006 remained committed to advancing socio-economic development in the Njombe Region and beyond. Its central objective is to encourage, promote, and support initiatives that improve community well-being through sustainable development in education, health, agriculture, and economic empowerment.
